The more things change, the more they stay the same

This is an award winning photograph taken during the Spanish civil war.[LINK]

It was taken at the exact moment that Federico Borrell García was shot and killed, catching him just before he hits the ground.

This photograph was taken in Afghanistan a couple of months ago showing an American GI being shot by a Taliban gunman.[LINK]

Apart from it being a great photograph, I was just struck by how blasé we seem to have become over the images of war. The Robert Capa photo from the Spanish civil war promoted international outcry and almost single handedly caused international pressure to end the war....whereas the Afghan photo was buried on page thirty of Time magazine without even the soldier's name.

It took me two days, the last 24 hours without sleep. I'm the editor of the student paper here so i'm used to writing up to 4,000 words a day.
